The cheapest way into real AirPods, and the right pick if noise cancelling is not what you are shopping for. Say this plainly: the 3rd generation has no Active Noise Cancellation. What it has is the open-ear shape with no tips to size, Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, and Adaptive EQ that tunes music to the shape of your ear as it plays. For a commute you want to hear through, a desk, a walk, or a first pair for someone in the house, that is plenty.

The Apple H1 chip keeps the connection steady across Apple devices, and a force sensor on the stem handles play, skip and calls without reaching for your phone.

Battery, from Apple's tech specs: up to 6 hours of listening on a charge, 5 hours with Spatial Audio on, and up to 30 hours in total with the case. Five minutes in the case gives about an hour of listening.

Earbuds and case are rated IPX4 for sweat and water. If you want the room to go quiet, look at the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation or the AirPods Pro 2 instead.

Do these have noise cancellation?

No. AirPods 3rd generation do not have Active Noise Cancellation. For that, look at AirPods 4 with ANC or AirPods Pro.

Do they need ear tips?

No. They use an open-ear design that rests in your ear, with nothing to size or replace.

How long does the battery last?

Up to 6 hours of listening on one charge, 5 hours with Spatial Audio on, and up to 30 hours in total with the case, according to Apple.
